Our Story
Taka Dog Walk was born in 2009 out of one dog mom’s big heart and one very special dog named Mischa.
On December 5 2008, I rescued my beloved, soul dog Mischa, and saved me. Mischa and I walked everywhere together when I noticed so many underwhelming pet care facilities, as well as pet care providers, and dog walkers who really didn’t seem to care about the fur baby’s they were with. I saw No joy. No connection with the dog in their hand.
I promised my Mischa that she’d never experience that indifference, and neither would any dog in my care.
Together, with my partner in life, Paul, and our muse Mischa, that promise became
Taka Dog Walk.
What started as simple walks with Mischa and a small group of doggy friends, along the old, undeveloped Lincoln Harbor path. Before we knew it, we grew into a full heart-led business. One happy dog parent referred another, and then another, and soon the dog community and “parade of dogs” along Harbor Blvd became a familiar sight.
Over time, we expanded to Oakland, NJ, bringing the same love, ethics, and attention to our in-home daycare, boarding, and hikes.
Our Philosophy
At Taka Dog Walk, we believe:
- Dogs are family, not “units.”
- Walks are not a task to check off — they are connection, enrichment, and joy.
- A tired dog is great, but a balanced, understood, and emotionally safe dog is even better.
- Trust between dog, human, and walker is everything.
We keep our operation intentionally small and personal so we can stay present and attentive. We don’t overbook, we don’t rush through visits, and we don’t hand your dog off to strangers.
